ROYAL SURPRISE IN IRELAND Nobody saw it coming – but Princess Anne just pulled off one of the most unexpected royal moves of the year!

Princess Anne traveled to Ireland on Wednesday to meet with political leaders and some other special friends.

The Princess Royal, 74, made a one-day visit to Dublin, where she met with Irish President Michael D. Higgins and his wife, Sabina, who welcomed her at Áras an Uachtaráin.

Following their chat, President Higgins released a statement, saying, “It was a pleasure to renew my conversations with Her Royal Highness Princess Anne, The Princess Royal, and to recognise the significant contribution which she has made over so many years to the relationship between our two countries.”

“I was also pleased to recognise the contribution which The Princess Royal has made to equestrian sports over the years as well as to related learning and therapy services,” he added. “I further took the opportunity to extend my best wishes to His Majesty King Charles and to recall his unwavering support for peace and reconciliation.”

Princess Anne then attended the opening of the 150th Dublin Horse Show at the Royal Dublin Society. There, she toured a special exhibition and presented rosettes to the winners in the Small Hunters category.

The Princess Royal — who shared her love of horses with her late mother, Queen Elizabeth — also met with representatives of Festina Lento, a non-profit organization that provides riding lessons and equine therapy services.

Princess Anne doesn’t just have a love for horses; she’s also a talented rider. In 1976, she became the first member of the British royal family to compete in the Olympic Games, riding with the U.K. team at the Summer Games in Montreal.

Last year, however, the Princess Royal was hospitalized for five days after Buckingham Palace announced that she “sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate,” her country home. The palace said that Anne was hospitalized “as a precautionary measure for observation” and was “expected to make a full and swift recovery.”

Because of the concussion she sustained, the exact details of the “incident” could not be ascertained. However, her injuries were consistent with a potential impact from a horse’s head or legs.

Though Princess Anne gradually returned to public life, The Sunday Times published an exclusive profile on the accident last month, claiming it was “so much worse than anyone let on.”

“It took quite a while for her to feel herself again,” a source told the outlet.
