A Day of Reunion and Connection
On March 6th, Catherine spent a busy day meeting members of Leicester’s diverse community, celebrating culture, heritage, and connection just days after the colorful Hindu festival of Holi. Amidst formal activities and ceremonial greetings, it was Catherine’s spontaneous willingness to participate in the lantern-releasing game that truly captured everyone’s hearts.

During a visit to the Shri Gi Dam Havlli temple, the princess quietly removed her beige high heels, a rare sight at a royal event. Stepping in barefoot, she joined a vibrant Bollywood dance performance. As the music filled the hall, Catherine clapped, swayed to the rhythm, and immersed herself in the dancers’ energetic movements with infectious joy. The room quickly filled with laughter and applause as she embraced the moment with genuine enthusiasm.
A personal touch in royal encounters
Earlier in the day, Catherine had greeted members of the community with her characteristic grace, expressing her excitement at witnessing local work. After watching a lively dance performance by a local Bollywood group, the princess was invited to try the steps. Initially a little hesitant, Catherine laughed and playfully replied, “Oh, well, then let’s try!” before stepping forward to join them. The crowd responded with enthusiastic cheers as she attempted energetic movements, demonstrating her readiness to embrace the moment.
The celebration was part of Leicester’s sacred Lantern Festival, an annual festival marking the arrival of spring and symbolizing love, renewal, and the triumph of good over evil. During her visit to the temple, Catherine also participated in a traditional religious ceremony honoring the Hindu god Krishna. Wearing an exquisite garland around her neck, the princess respectfully offered fresh milk to the deity in a symbolic act of devotion, showing her respect for the community’s customs and beliefs.

Royal attire with personal significance
For the occasion, Catherine chose an elegant yet understated outfit. She wore a custom-designed cream-colored coat dress by Chris Kair, layered over a pleated knit midi skirt by Ralph Lauren, creating a sophisticated look that balanced royal elegance with approachable warmth. Her accessories also held personal significance, including a pair of dangling earrings, a Christmas gift from her husband, Prince William, in 2022.
Touching Moments at the Belgrave Community Centre
Upon arriving at the Belgrave Community Centre, Catherine was presented with a stunning wreath of pearls and roses by dancer and choreographer Acash Odedra. He explained the meaning of the gesture, saying he created it especially for the princess. Inside the centre, Catherine watched another captivating dance performance and was deeply moved by the artistry. After the performance, she expressed her appreciation, saying, “So moving… Wonderful.”
Family Connection and a Meaningful Return
During the visit, Catherine spoke of her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, sharing that they would surely enjoy these impactful exercises. “You have to be very fit because it’s very effective,” she told the dancers with a radiant smile. This visit marked a more joyful occasion for Catherine, who had previously visited Leicester in 2018 to commemorate the victims of a tragic helicopter crash.

While Catherine enjoyed a day in Leicester, Prince William was a few hundred miles away in Cornwall attending events commemorating St. Piran’s Day. Despite being at opposite ends of the country, the pair recently delighted royal fans with a joint visit to Wales, showcasing their close bond. This event also marked another step in Catherine’s gradual return to public life after her healing journey. After revealing earlier this year that she was cancer-free, Catherine has carefully balanced her recovery and her valuable public work.
